Troubleshooting
It says “Please select some text”
Section titled “It says “Please select some text””The add-on translates what is selected in the document. Highlight the text you want with your mouse first, then click Translate selection. Images and other non-text elements are skipped.
The language keeps changing by itself
Section titled “The language keeps changing by itself”This was a bug in older versions: looking up a word could switch the From language to the language that was detected. It is fixed. The add-on now only changes your languages when you choose them yourself. If you still see it, close and reopen the sidebar to load the latest version.
The speaker / pronunciation does not work
Section titled “The speaker / pronunciation does not work”Check that your computer’s sound is on and the browser tab is not muted. If you see “Speech is not available for this language”, there is no voice for that language yet (about 55 languages have one). Make sure the From language matches the word, or use Auto-detect.
The sidebar is blank or shows an error when it opens
Section titled “The sidebar is blank or shows an error when it opens”Try these steps:
- Reload the document and open Extensions > Docs Paragraph Translate > Start again.
- If you are signed in to several Google accounts, open the document in a browser window (or private window) signed in to only one account; Google add-ons often fail with several accounts signed in.
- If Google asks for permission, allow it; this happens after updates that change what the add-on needs.
- Allow third-party cookies for docs.google.com if your browser blocks them. If it still fails, contact us with a screenshot of the error.
