Getting started

Docs Paragraph Translate is a Google Docs add-on for reading and learning languages inside your own documents. It translates the text you select, has a dictionary with meanings, example sentences and pronunciation, a notebook (My words) to save words you are learning, AI explanations of grammar and vocabulary, and a Chat tab to practise conversation with an AI partner. It opens as a sidebar next to your document.

How do I install Docs Paragraph Translate?

Install it from the Google Workspace Marketplace: https://workspace.google.com/marketplace/app/docs_paragraph_translate/558115697277 , click Install, choose your Google account and allow the permissions. Or, inside any Google Doc, go to Extensions > Add-ons > Get add-ons, search for “Docs Paragraph Translate” and click Install. Then open a document and go to Extensions > Docs Paragraph Translate > Start; the sidebar opens on the right (reload the document if the menu does not show it yet). School or company accounts: if installing is blocked, ask your Google Workspace admin to allow the add-on, or to install it for the whole school or company from the Admin console.

Open a Google Doc, then go to Extensions > Docs Paragraph Translate > Start. The sidebar opens on the right. If you just installed the add-on and it is not in the Extensions menu yet, reload the document.

Does it work in Google Sheets, Slides or on my phone?

The add-on works in Google Docs in a web browser on a computer. Google Docs add-ons do not run in the Google Docs mobile apps, and this add-on is not available in Sheets or Slides.

Yes. The sidebar follows the language of your Google account and is available in 20 languages: English, Vietnamese, Spanish, Portuguese, French, German, Italian, Dutch, Polish, Russian, Ukrainian, Turkish, Indonesian, Malay, Thai, Hindi, Japanese, Korean and Chinese (Simplified and Traditional). Other languages use English. To choose a different one, use the language menu (🌐) at the bottom left of the sidebar; the sidebar reopens in that language. This only changes the add-on’s menus and messages, not the languages you translate between.
